Great Expectations

We are looking for a mighty move of God in in 2017.

Isaiah 43:18-19 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

As we move into a new year expect God to do a new thing. Expect Him to do exceeding abundantly above all you can ask or think. Join us each month as we explore what God has in store for us as we remain steadfast in faith and prayer.

What are you expecting in 2017?  What are you believing God for? I’ll bet you have a list that goes on and on. You may be believing God for health for yourself and loved ones, maybe a better or different job, a financial breakthrough or perhaps to discover your purpose. And don’t forget salvation for your lost loved ones. These are just a few of the things that most of us want. We want and expect God to come through for us, to be committed to us and rightly so, He says in Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

But what about our commitment to Him? Let’s face it. Oftentimes we start off the New Year with a renewed zeal. We are gung ho, whether our commitment is to a new eating plan, to exercise, to change an unhealthy lifestyle or to renew our commitment to Christ. We may even start the year with a fast, but what happens after the first month or two? Our enthusiasm and our commitment begin to wane. Why is that? We make plenty of excuses ranging from not enough time, which I believe is our biggest offender to I’m going to do it tomorrow, but tomorrow never comes.

Procrastination – did you know procrastination is a form of fear? Fear that you may not be able to whatever it is that you want to do, fear that you may not be as successful as you would like to be, so you put things off and sometimes don’t even attempt to do whatever it is. Sometimes our procrastination comes from fear of success. What if I’m successful? What happens next? Will I be able to keep it up? Will people find out I’m really a fraud. These are just the fiery darts the enemy uses to keep us from our destiny, from the exceedingly abundant life God has created for us. Have you ever closed your eyes and saw yourself doing everything you God has gifted you to do, or placed in your spirit that you can be? If you haven’t, I recommend that you do just that today.

Write the vision and make it plain. See yourself the way God sees you. He doesn’t see you as a failure. He doesn’t even see your sin. He sees you as the masterpiece He created you to be. Don’t allow the enemy within, your own thoughts, or the enemy without, the naysayers to sidetrack you from what God has for you. God wants you to have great expectations!

Go Against the Grain

I’ve probably mentioned this before, so for those of you who have heard it before bear with me. When I was a young child I wanted to be a fashion designer. I made my own clothes. I made clothes for my Barbie doll. I fashioned jewelry out of wire. I did these things because I enjoyed doing them and no one told me that I couldn’t do them. No one told me I couldn’t pick up the wire they fell to the ground when the telephone company worked on the telephone lines and use it to make colorful jewelry. No one told me I couldn’t make my Barbie’s clothes.  Well my mother did tell me I couldn’t cut up my socks to make clothes for my doll unless they had a hole in them, but that’s a different story. No one told me I couldn’t make moccasins out of an old blanket, or create my own way of embroidering. No one told me I had to use a pattern when I wanted a maxi skirt because everyone else had one.

Have you ever watched a child play or listened to them tell a story? They have the wildest imaginations. They think they can do anything.

When do we lose that sense of imagination, that creativity; that drive to do whatever we believe we can do? For some of us it’s never. Some of us live with that childlike faith and belief throughout life. But for many of us reality hits us at an early age. Someone speaks words of discouragement that stifle our imagination. It may be a teacher that doesn’t understand our creativity, and rather than encourage it we may be labeled as disruptive in class or inattentive.

What is our role as parents or caregivers? When a child wants to spend more time exploring their creative genius than completing and turning in homework assignments, or studying it’s a parent or caregiver’s responsibility to ensure there is balance. An education is important and a gift should not be neglected.

1 Timothy 4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

Each of us have gifts as I’ve previously stated. I admire anyone that follows their passion, anyone that refuses to listen to no you can’t, anyone that perseveres in spite of the naysayers, anyone that perseveres against the odds, anyone that invests, time, money and effort to fulfill their destiny.

In my book Who Told You That You Were Naked, Reclaim Your God-given Birthright (due to be released later this year) I ask the question who told you that you cannot do or be whatever or whoever God has told you that you can do or be.

I think from time to time, we are all guilty of allowing others to dictate who we are and or what we should do, or what we should be. We may be influenced my well-meaning family, friends, coworkers, or even social media.

Have you ever thought about what you could do if you allowed yourself to let your imagination go free, if you allowed the Holy Spirit to truly take control, if you yielded your vessel completely to God?

Act Like It's So!

I believe that everything that occurs in our life is part of who God created us to be, the good, the bad, the ugly. The things that only God knows, as well as the things others know but you wish they didn’t. The journey is what gets you there. It’s part of your story and your testimony to encourage others. Besides, who can tell your story better than you?

We have all said and done things we wish we hadn’t said or done. We all have things we would change if we could, but if we changed those things how would God use them to testify of his grace, mercy and glory? I’m sure some of you may be thinking, well my story has so many things in it that I could have done without I’d gladly pass them along to someone else. Unfortunately that’s not the way God planned it. He is able to use every encounter to encourage someone else and prayerfully to prevent them from making some of the same mistakes, or as I prefer to call them opportunities for growth that you have experienced.

Each of us are walking in our own journey. Some of us may have progressed to points that have us closer to our destiny than others, but remember wherever you are you are still growing. I don’t believe any of us will reach the end of our journey until we meet our Lord and Savior, which is when a new journey begins.

But today we are talking about the journey, plan, vision and destiny God has for us on earth.

We have talked about different things that we encounter along our journey that may slow us down. We’ve also talked about how quitting is not an option.

Well here’s something I’d like you to think about. I’d also like for you to make a few notes and if you feel comfortable post your thoughts on the Sisters Steadfast in Faith Facebook page.

As I’ve mentioned our journey is part of our destiny. The last milestone that you reached is just as important as the next one. Now here’s my question. What things would you be doing differently if you were at the next milestone, or further into your journey than where you are currently?

For example, let’s say you have a product that you have created and you are sharing it on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. You believe God’s plan is for you to employ others to sell your product. Have you done research to find out what is required to have someone else sell your product? Is there someone you have sold your product to that continuously purchases, rants and raves about your products and provides you with referrals?

Maybe God wants you to share you testimony on a major platform to encourage others. Are you only sharing your testimony with Christians rather than with the people in the world that need to know Jesus?

Are you taking advantage of each opportunity He presents to you? Are you taking his talents and multiplying them, or have you buried them, afraid someone will steal them, or take advantage of you?

If you were at the next milestone or even further in your journey, what would it look like? How would your behavior change? Would you have more faith because you are further along? If your answer to this question is yes, then shame on you. Let me remind you of Hebrews 11:1 now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Regardless of where you are in your journey your faith should be the same.

Don't Lose Focus

I pray that any of you that were contemplating throwing in the towel, or quitting are back on track. As you move forward I must remind you to stay focused. Keep your mind on what God says and not what the enemy tries to plant in your mind. Keep pressing forward.

For as we read in Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

How do you plan your day, week, month, and year. What are your short and long term goals? That’s a lot to think about, so let’s back up and take it one plan at a time.

What were your plans for today? Were you able to accomplish them? If not, why not? What distracted you, or interrupted your plan? Were you able to overcome the distraction or interruption and get back on course or will you have to use time allocated for another task to get back on track.

Things don’t always go the way we plan. Sometimes it’s a good thing, and sometimes it may not be a good thing. What’s important is that you don’t allow distractions to side track you, or prevent you from moving towards your goal.

We’ve talked previously about how fear of success can be just as crippling as fear of failure. When you see the doors you’ve knocked on being opened, when you receive what you have asked for, when you find what you have been seeking, don’t become afraid of the success God is bringing your way. Not only is this what you have been diligently praying for it is also your destiny.

Many times when we are getting close to a victorious moment the enemy will cause us to start doubting. He will send those fiery darts towards your mind. The ones that say, this can’t be real, I’m not good enough, they must have made a mistake. He may even try to convince you that the thing you have tried so hard to achieve, along with your efforts to achieve them are worthless. He wants to convince you that you will not succeed.

Matthew 14: 22-32 and straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.  But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.  And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.  And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.  And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.  And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

I want us to take a look at a few things here. First, there were several disciples on the boat. Why was Peter the only one that asked the Lord to bid him, or enable him to come to him on the water? Why did Peter want to walk on the water in the first place? Why didn’t he just allow Jesus to come and join them on the ship?

My thought is that Peter had faith, He believed that it was Jesus walking on the water. He also believed that because it was Jesus he could command him, or enable him to walk on the water. When Jesus said come, Peter didn’t hesitate. He went down out of the ship and began walking toward Jesus. Peter wasn’t walking towards the shore, or walking around the boat just to see if he was in fact able to walk on water. He had a goal in mind. He was walking towards Jesus.

Are you like the rest of the disciples in the boat, or are you like Peter? Are you bold enough in your faith to say, if it is you bid me to come? Lord, if this is your plan for my life enable me to walk in it. Equip me with the faith that I need to walk towards my destiny, to reach my goal.

Are You Ready?

The other day my sister asked me to let her dog out of the house. She had been gone most of the day and did not anticipate arriving home in a timely manner. Now you must know Jazzy, my sister’s dog. If any of you have dogs you know they have their own personality and many of them just as Jazzy does think they are human.

Jazzy saw me walking towards my sister’s house and began barking. When I opened the door Jazzy was glad to see me. Usually if you ask her if she wants to go to the mail box she will follow you. This time she didn’t. My sister asked me to pick up her bag of dog food and walk towards the door to see if she would follow. Jazzy just looked at me. I asked her if she wanted to go outside. She laid down on the floor and turned her head away from me as if to say I’m comfortable just where I am. Go away. My sister asked me to put her on speaker thinking if she heard her voice she could coax her into going outside. Again, Jazzy gave me that you can go now look, so I left.

Jazzy was comfortable. I’m sure if she really needed to go outside she would have gone outside.

How many of us are comfortable so we stay where we are?

While pursuing our passion, dream, vision, destiny, many of us are employed in full time jobs which I believe are part of our journey otherwise we wouldn’t be there. Depending on the job, we may put in 40 hours a week or more. We are comfortable because we have income, a means of supporting ourselves and our family. But how much time are we committing to what we know God has called us to do and instilled in our hearts?

Many of us, me included struggle with our commitment to what we know will bring us a satisfaction that only comes with fulfilling our purpose. Our excuses vary. We don’t have time, we’re too tired, and/or we don’t have the money. We also have doubt. What if I’m not good enough, what if I fail, what if this really isn’t God? Excuses, Excuses!

How many people that don’t believe in God succeed because they apply His principles? Have you ever listened to a successful entrepreneur or business owner talk about what makes them successful? Whether they realize it or not they are applying sound business principles which come directly from the bible.

Paul said in Philippians 4:12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

It would be foolish, unless instructed by God, to quit your job and follow your passion full time, but what are you doing to prepare yourself?

What if you woke up tomorrow morning to find all your bills were paid, you had an unlimited line of credit for which you were not responsible for repaying, and a note which read do it now. What would you do, after picking yourself up off of the floor of course?

Are you ready? Can you step out of the door right now and begin doing what you know, that you know, that you know, you should be doing?

In Matthew 25 we read the parable of the ten virgins.

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

² And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

³ They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

⁴ But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

⁵ While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

⁶ And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

⁷ Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

⁸ And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

⁹ But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

¹⁰ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

¹¹ Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

¹² But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

¹³ Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

 

I would like to liken the coming of the Son of man to your opportunity to do what God has called you to do. Will you be ready? Are you like the wise virgins or the foolish virgins? Do you have oil for your lamp? Are you doing everything you need to do so that when your opportunity presents itself, when your gift makes room for you and brings your before great men you will be able to step into your rightful place?

Are you responding like Jazzy when she heard my sister’s voice trying to coax her to go outside? Turning your head the other way, waiting for more than a voice?

God speaks to us in many ways. He is coaxing us by giving us a heart or passion for whatever it is that He has called us to do.  He speaks to us through His word, other people, circumstances and situations. I believe He is speaking to you and me right now through this blog. Will you take heed, be bold, confident in God’s plan for your life, and move out of your comfort zone, or will you rest on your laurels, slumber and sleep as the foolish virgins?

IF YOU CAN START YOU CAN FINISH

When we embark on the journey towards reaching our destiny, we must also realize the journey along with its ups and downs, trials and tribulations, moments of victory and defeat are all part of our destiny.

If we were never down we would never appreciate being on top. There will be times when we may take baby steps and there will be times when we may not take a step at all. It is during these times that we may question our destiny, ask ourselves if we are heading in the right direction. We may even take a break, or pause for a period of time, but then we feel that unction in our spirit that reminds us that we must go on and that we will not be satisfied until we reach the pinnacle of what God has created us to do.

The funny thing about our destiny is that is does not end until all of our work here on earth is finished. We may have completed a project or reached what we may feel is a milestone, but just as we do God places another idea in our spirit, something else that He wants us to accomplish for Him.

I find it interesting that we always seem to know when God has something else in store for us. We start feeling empty even though we may have just completed what seemed to be an insurmountable task. We are able to accomplish the task by the grace of God, we are excited and joyous because it’s behind us, but it’s not enough and we begin to wonder what’s next.

As each of our lives are predestined God has already determined everything we will do. When we look at the life of Joseph we see his brothers wanted to kill him, they led their father to believe he was dead, they sold him into slavery. He was accused of rape, served time in prison, placed in the second highest position in the land and saved those same brothers from famine that wanted him dead.

If Joseph knew what the end was going to be it may have made his journey a little more tolerable. Sure he had some good times during the bad times, but there were also times knowing he had done nothing wrong that he may have wondered why me.

We must think about Joseph as we walk through our predestined paths. We don’t know what our end will be. We will experience trials and tribulations because God told us we would. Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers us out of them all. He also said our latter will be greater than the former. Our last days will be better than our first days.

God has instilled in us a desire to have everything He has promised us, that is why we have what seems to be an insatiable desire to serve Him. The desires, visions, ideas that He has placed in us are the service He has called us to. We need to worship Him. We need to praise Him. We need to seek Him and we need to fulfill His plan for our lives.

During our fleshly times of weakness is when we may stray off of His path, but God already knew we were going to stray, so He nudges us and gets us back on track. What a mighty God we serve! Even when we want to give up He gives us just want we need to keep moving.

I recently took a stress test. For those of you who have never taken one you are placed on a treadmill while connected to an EKG machine. Your heart rate and blood pressure are monitored during the test. The incline and pace are increased in intervals. By the time the test was almost over I was thinking what would happen if I just stop. I felt like I could not continue but I did.

God has already provided everything we need to accomplish everything He has ordained for our lives. What we endure is because we are on the mission He has placed us on.When you feel like giving up that is when you must remember 2Corinthinians 12:10 therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Oftentimes the greatest victories occur just as we are feeling we can’t go on. If I’d stopped while on the treadmill I would have failed the test and would need to reschedule. How do I know I would be able to complete the test the second time if I would have quit the first time? I could tell myself I would practice, but would I? Probably not.

Rather than quit when you are almost there push! Give it your best shot! You will never cross the finish line if you stop just short of it. If you start you can finish. Finishing is the end that God has predestined for you. It may not be what you think it should be, but it will always be what He has chosen and what He has determined as completion.

 

 

 

What Do You See?

Have you ever walked past a store in the mall or building with glass front and taken a glimpse of yourself as you walked by? What did you see? Perhaps you noticed your hair, your clothing, or even your stride as you caught your image for a brief moment.

Once you passed that place you could no longer see your image nor could anyone else that may have been glancing in that direction at the same time. Your physical body was still in motion but the image was no longer visible.

Depending on the glass your reflection may have appeared elongated, or it could have appeared to be stretched out or shrunken. Paul says in James 1:22-24 but be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: for he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway fogetteth what manner of man he was.

What do people see when they look at you? We also read in 1 Samuel 16:7 ...for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. Just as you see your image as you walk past the glass that is the same image man sees but is that who you are? We read in James if you are not a doer of the word but a hearer only you are that image that is in the glass. Once your reflection is gone you forget who you are on the inside. You lose track of what God has called you to do if you are looking and listening but not doing.

Oftentimes we get excited when we have an idea or a vision in mind of what we want to do or the direction in which we believe God is leading us. But once we take our eyes off of how we see ourselves involved in our destiny, or if we no longer hear ourselves talking about what it will take to get there we are no longer taking steps towards reaching our goals. We are no longer doing that which will take us there.

But we are just like that image in the glass; our image is no longer there. We must always stay proactive. We must always be in the business of being in business. It is easy to become distracted and lose sight of our goals. But we must do something every day to remind ourselves of what it is that we are striving to do. I don’t like to use the word small because there is no small effort. Any effort at all should be rewarded because it takes you one step closer to your victory.

I will close this by saying don’t forget the image in the mirror. You may be the only one that sees it. Let your works speak for themselves because the image is only temporary.

I’m Convinced

Last week I posed the question just how committed are you. I wrote about my peaks and valleys as far as commitment is concerned. As I pondered my commitment another thought came to mind. The more I thought about how committed I am to forging my way towards my destiny the more determined I became to move forward.

This determination has moved me to a new level of commitment which I refer to as being convinced. You can commit yourself to a task, or a plan. You can even commit yourself to an idea but being convinced brings on a certain drive.

When you are convinced of your destiny you settle within yourself that whatever it is that you are expecting to happen will happen and no one can convince you otherwise.

I have set certain goals for myself. My sister has told me I’m not a realist. If I was a realist why would I need faith? I’m an eternal optimist, always have been and always will be. I believe. I believe, yes I believe.

I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that everything that has been placed in my spirit will come to pass. Every idea, every project, every dream, vision or thought whether spoken out loud or heard through meditation is mine. I have taken hold of them all and will not let go. Just as Jacob stated in Genesis 32:26 I will l not let go until you bless me.

I will not give up, slow down, turn in another direction or quit. I am convinced that I am exactly where I am supposed to be doing exactly what God has predestined me to do.

What about your? Are you committed and or convinced? Are you determined to go all the way? Have you settled in your mind that this is it and there is no turning back? Are you ready to forge ahead or are you content to watch others move forward while you sit quietly in the background wishing it was you? Wishing won’t get you anywhere but making a commitment to move forward will give you the drive to be convinced.

 

Just How Committed Are You?

If I had a dollar for each time I have said I’m going to dedicate myself to following my destiny I probably wouldn’t have to follow it because I’d be a billionaire. That may be an exaggeration but I have made a commitment to follow my dreams more times than I care to remember. The truth of the matter is I have my peaks and valleys. There are days when I work until I can’t think. Whether I’m working on my latest book, a poem, a greeting card or marketing. There are days when the adrenaline is so strong I feel as though I can’t get the words on paper fast enough.

Then there are the days I sit in front of the television and don’t move. Afterwards I become angry with myself because of all the time I’ve wasted doing absolutely nothing. I can also spend an entire day just conversing with people. I must admit my biggest joy comes from helping others discover their passion and encouraging them to follow their dreams and pursue their destiny, but what else would you expect from a Motivational Speaker and Life Coach?

What’s important is consistency with balance. It’s great to follow your dreams but without balance even following your dreams can take a toll on you. When you are passionate about what you are doing it doesn’t feel like work, time gets away from you and before you know it you can become burnt out doing the thing you love the most.

Always make time for friends, family and something fun. This enables you to work without feeling guilty when you take a break.

Just how committed are you? Some people work full or part-time jobs while pursing their passion. If you fall into this category commit one of my favorite scriptures to memory. It can be found in Romans 4:17 call those things which be not as though they were. What is your passion, dream, desire or destiny? Perhaps you want to be a chef. Why not call yourself a chef? Maybe your desire is to be an artist. Call yourself an artist, and say it aloud. God spoke the world into existence. Why can’t you speak your destiny into existence? If you believe you can do it and put effort behind it your faith will bring it to fruition.

Are You In Motion?

One of the definitions of motion is the action or process of moving or of changing place or position; movement. This process of moving, changing place or position can take you in different directions. But back to my original question are you in motion? Positive motion will propel you forward. It keeps you active and engaged in reaching your goals, your dreams, and your destiny. While negative motion will move you in the opposite direction.

Oftentimes interference or noise will turn our positive or forward motion into a negative or backward motion or even stop us from moving.  Have you ever listened to a radio station with a very clear signal then suddenly the signal weakens there may be static or you may even hear a completely different station. The radio frequency has changed because you are out of range.

When we lose our focus, our reason or purpose for seeking after our goals, dreams or destiny due to interference or noise we may feel what we have been striving for is out of range. You may have written a business plan, spent hours doing research but ran into a snag. Perhaps you have run out of funding. Maybe you are walking through the mall and see an idea that is similar to yours or everything is in place for a big contract that falls through at the last minute.

What do you do? Do you lose focus? If you were listening to the radio and were no longer able to listen to your favorite station what would you do? Do you play a CD or do you turn off the radio? If you are like me you may make your own music and sing.

We cannot be distracted by notice, interference or setbacks. As long as we are alive and striving to reach a goal there will be obstacles in our way so what do we do? We improvise. If your capital has fallen short find creative ways to come up with new capital. Have a garage sale, or sell unwanted or unneeded items on ebay. Perhaps you can barter with someone than needs what you have to offer. So what if someone has an idea that is similar to yours. I cannot say this enough. No one can do what you can do exactly the way you do it. If one contract falls through keep working towards the next one. As long as you are moving forward you will reach your destination, but the minute you stop moving your progression stops.

We all get side tracked from time to time but it’s imperative that you stay focused. Find an alternate route. It may take you longer to get there but you will get there eventually and guess what? You may even find your detour gets you there quicker.
